When I was growing up outside of Philadelphia, I was always interested in Climate change! I remember writing my “big” 8th grade paper on seal level rise due to the decreasing amount of glatial ice. I have always been interested in the topic, from watching discovery channel documentaries to natural disaster movies, they all interest me.
It is backwards and insane to think that government comities on the issue, oppose the idea completely as if we are living in the 1800’s or as if (more likely) they never received any primary schooling! The committee on since space and technology you would think would be filled with forward thinking people, but you would be wrong. The fact is you don’t have to have a degree or even a working elementary knowledge of the topic in which you are on a committee for. The only requirement is that you have an opinion, or in government it is called an agenda. The problem stems from the top down and of cores is controlled by large amounts of money.
The fact is the politicians that are put into these committees are there because they represent larger corporations with not so hidden interests. companies like Exxon, and Koch who would take a hit if there was legislation passed to hinder their operations. To counteract this they buy politicians to secure their interests (energy companies ideals match more with republican ideals.) The shitty thing about all of this is that they are the ones who are leading the proven existence of global warming. on the flip side of things, there are not deep pocketed environmental groups to combat these negative interests, so in the end the ideas of the oil companies are the ones flowing through government.
If things were different and scientists made up the panel on the committee there would still be a problem! Even though they would acknowledge the existence of climate change, they would be tasked at finding a way to combat it and still help the economy. In the end although the large corporations do terrible things to the land, they also pump tons of money into the world economy and have reaches and connections to places we are not even aware of.
It’s not an easy fix.
